About KBP

Karnataka Bharatagama Pratishthana, a forum of about 20 organisations headed by eminent dancealogists, art historians and performing artists, has initiated the process of reconstruction and reinvention of the Classical Dance Heritage of Karnataka, to elevate the highest classical regional art form to the national level.

The disciplines pertain to arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and cognitive sciences play a vital role in every stage of human development leading to excellence. KBP facilitates interaction between the eminent scholars, danceologists and practicing artistes with inter-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches. Such environment will augur the need of producing brilliant minds to contribute significantly to the world order in Dance Heritage.

Our Objectives

  • KBP is the only Foundation, which has taken up the task to restore the Karnataka pride in the field of Classical Dance tradition
  • We aim to take up the research projects in line with the classical language because classical language includes the art and culture of the region it represents. 
  • Karnataka Classical Dance tradition is driving towards the heritage tag by trying to resurrect the four schools namely, Kolar, Mysore, Muguru and Nanjanagudu. 
  • We would like to research on the Natya tradition and the gurus belonging to this  rich heritage and introduce the genuine dance and music forms to the present generation of dancers.
  • KBP’s vision is to inculcate human values in all learning spheres.

Our Approach

  • 15 dance schools who have nurtured one of the four traditions of Karnataka Bharatanatya, recognised by the Govt. of Karnataka have joined the Foundation with a commitment to strive for the of Karnataka Classical Dance Tradition.
  • In collaboration with Govt. of Karnataka, the Pratishthana has conducted a series of work-shops, research projects, conferences, and publication and performances.
  • Karnataka Bharatagama Pratishthana is the only centre recognised and affiliated to UGC- State Dr.Gangubai Music and Performing Arts University to conduct PhD Doctoral programme, Post-graduate Degree Programme in Bharatanatya, Diploma and Certificate Courses
  • The Pratishthana is engaged in innovative research, teaching, training, disseminating of knowledge to the widest possible seekers

Our Approach

  • The members of the Pratishthana are research scholars who have undertaken research projects on Indian Art, Culture, literature and Dance and they have many avenues in view to work in this direction.
  • The Pratishthana is working on an ambitious project of documenting the sculptures, inscriptions, texts, literature, the living and non-living gurus and their teaching modules, performances of artistes etc pertaining to Karnataka Dance forms
  • Pratishthana has the Publication division, several volumes on Dance and related fields have been published.  Encouraging critical reflection and logical thinking through written, verbal, artistic and digital expression
  • Pratishthana conducted Nritya Gurukul online workshops for 4 months even during Covid time with tremendous response
